About Delbert
Hello! My name is Delbert Lambert, I am from a small town in Eastern North Carolina called Kinston, NC. Not to be confused with Kingston, as I jokingly tell people, usually from the western part of the state, who accidentally say it with a “g”. I tell them we decided to drop the “g” in 1775. If you are not familiar with Kinston, NC it is in the middle of some larger ENC cities and the majority of the military bases in North Carolina. Kinston is 30 minutes South of Greenville, 30 minutes North of Jacksonville, 30 minutes East of Goldsboro, and 30 minutes west of New Bern. Most people know us for our barbeque, the real bbq, Neuse Sport Shop, and our basketball talent.
Growing up I attended Southwood Elementary, Woodington Middle School, and South Lenoir High School. If you have ever been to Kinston it is somewhat similar to the Lincoln County area in that usually everyone there is from there and can probably tell you what use to be at the corner of this street many years ago and give directions based on what use to be at that location.
While in school I played baseball, basketball, and football through my various school years and played on many successful teams in my years as a student athlete. Including winning AAU State title, Playing in the National Tournament (that didn’t go so well), a few conference championships in baseball and was recruited lightly to play baseball at the collegiate level.
After high school, I went on to attend Lenoir Community College and changed my majors a few times before deciding to go into education. Once I had a set career path, I transferred to East Carolina University where I attained my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Science Education.
Shortly after graduating from ECU, I moved to New Bern, N.C. to teach science and coach high school baseball. While at New Bern High School as a teacher I taught Earth Science, Physical Science, and Ecology over a 6 year span. While at NBHS, I also coached our baseball team to a co-conference championship and a few runner up years as well. During my time at NBHS, I also received my Masters in School Administration from East Carolina University. So, when people ask where did you go to college? I always joke that I graduated from ECU twice so I guess I am a Pirate squared.
In 2014-2015, my family and I decided it was time to explore a larger metropolitan area and packed up and moved to Charlotte, N.C. where I continued to teacher Earth Science for the next year and a half. This was enough for a small town N.C. boy to realize that big cities were not for me and my wife so I started looking for smaller rural schools in the area, we did like being close, that I would be happier. There just so happen to be an opportunity at North Lincoln High School where I moved to and taught Biology and Anatomy and Physiology over the past 1.5 years.
In the spring of 2017, I received the exciting news that I would be the new Assistant Principal of NLHS which brings us to the future of my professional story. If you need anything from me or if you have a question don’t hesitate to give me a call, email me, or come visit me.
